Learn about the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and the LEED Green Building Rating System
Discover how windows can contribute to LEED certification
Understand the environmental impacts of specifying different window frame materials

With the increasing interest of architects, building owners, and general contractors in sustainable design, green building materials, and LEED certification; this program is designed to provide an overview of the United States Green Building Council, the LEED Green Building Rating System, and the contributions windows can make to LEED certification.

In addition, we explore how the architect’s specification of aluminum, wood, and vinyl window frames affects the environment around us. We’ll discuss sources for raw materials, renewable resources, recycled content, energy consumption and pollution during material extraction and window production, annual energy consumption after building occupancy, and what happens to the window after its useful life is over.
